Connie Flickinger, Our Pumpkin Patch Queen

Connie Flickinger is Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity. She caught the Habitat bug when she joined up with a group of volunteers at Peace Lutheran Church 27 years ago to help a member of the congregation rebuild after his home burned down. That experience revealed to her how much she enjoyed working alongside others who have a huge heart for people in need.

27 years is a long time. Over the decades, Connie has become a part of our story and the stories of the families whose lives have been transformed by decent and affordable housing. For Connie, Habitat is about witnessing children moved out of leaky and moldy homes in dangerous, drug-infested neighborhoods and into clean and secure homes in neighborhoods like Angel’s Gate where they can ride their bikes to their friends’ houses. It is about starting the Interfaith Build after 9/11 and forming bonds across cultures as volunteers build next to one another for a better community. It is about celebrating her favorite month and her favorite holiday at the Pumpkin Patch with families who come out to pick their pumpkins and make fall memories.

Connie Flickinger is a torch bearer for Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity. In all the various roles Connie has served, whether as a construction volunteer, volunteer committee Chair, lunch provider, church liaison and now as the Faith in Action Co-Chair, she embodies the heart and mission of our organization. It is because of people like Connie Flickinger, our Habitat continues to grow and evolve, enabling us to love our neighbors as ourselves. We are so thankful for Connie and all of who she is.

If you see her at the Faith In Action Pumpkin Patch this month, make sure to stop and thank her for giving so much to our community. She’s also more than willing to help you take a picture as well!

Happy fall!
