For Brenham native Brittanie Bellard, the dream of owning a safe and stable home for her two children, Breasia and Coma Jr., has finally come true.
Born in Brenham and raised in Navasota by her mother and stepfather, Brittanie moved to Bryan-College Station in 2019 after going through a rough patch, hoping for a fresh start. Today, she and her children have traded their old trailer home in Washington, Texas – an aging house with weak floors, poor ventilation, and only one window unit, for a brand-new Habitat home they can finally call their own.
Brittanie still remembers the moment she learned her family had been approved for the Habitat homeownership program. “I choked up and said, ‘Are you serious?’” she recalled. “I went home and cried myself to sleep. I still get goosebumps and cry sometimes thinking about it.”
She works overnight as a production operator at MidSouth Baking Company, where she’s been employed for four years, while attending a vocational program during the day. Outside of work, Brittanie enjoys singing, dancing, reading, doing hair, and traveling with her kids. Her son, Coma, keeps her motivated. “He asks me every other day when we are going to start building so he can help,” she said.
Through the Habitat journey, Brittanie learned to trust herself again. “I am able to do anything, as long as I try and don’t give up because of one failed thing,” she said. “Everyone isn’t out to hurt you; some people are truly genuine.”
Now that the Bellard family has celebrated their home dedication on November 15th, Brittanie is excited to begin this new chapter, starting with decorating the home she’s dreamed of for years.
From Brittanie and her children to all the sponsors and donors that make these projects possible: “We appreciate your support and help. You didn’t have to do any of this. Not too many people would want to give their hard-earned money to people they’ve never met. We pray that God blesses you and your family ten times over, and that He continues to make your light shine bright.”
For the Bellard family, this new home is more than just a house, it’s a blessing, a fresh start, and a place to finally call their own.
