Longing for a better future, Antonio and Rafaela Reyes emigrated to the United States from Zacatecas, Mexico, with their son, who is also named Antonio. When a relative invited the family to visit Bryan, Texas, they liked the city and decided to make it their home. In May of 2013, Antonio purchased a mobile home where the family still lives. At 588 square feet and with only one bedroom, the younger Antonio sleeps on a bed in the living room. Having limited space has been a struggle. The condition of the home is also poor, with water damage, wood rot and no insulation.
One day — before the pandemic — the couple heard about B/CS Habitat’s homeownership program when they were listening to Radio Alegria, a local Spanish station.
“When we were accepted, we were very happy and grateful for having this opportunity,” Antonio said. “We thank God for having been accepted.”
The family can’t wait to move into their new and spacious home. Their son will have his own room, the family will have more room for activities and the home will be brand spanking new. In fact, the image of receiving the keys to their new home has kept them motivated throughout the process.
The Reyes family is grateful to the donors and the volunteers who will make the Reyes family home possible!
“You don’t know us, but you are giving us this opportunity,” Antonio said. “We will keep you in our prayers so that God continues to bless you.”
