The 12th annual Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity Community Builders Breakfast commenced on February 24th, 2016. Over 450 guests came together into a beautifully set ballroom at the Hilton in College Station that morning to celebrate the accomplishments of the year and to look forward to the year to come. As breakfast was being served by the wonderful Hilton staff, several Habitat homeowners were given a chance to express their thanks for the donors and volunteers that had given so much to their families throughout the years. Guest speaker Cesia Sanchez, daughter of Habitat homeowner Margarita Sanchez, talked about the positive changes her family has made because of the donors and volunteers who helped sponsor and build the family’s home. Cesia, who will graduate from Texas A&M in May with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in math, expressed it this way:
What you give to Habitat goes way beyond building a home. It may take years to see, but you are creating safer neighborhoods and bettering the economy. Above all, you are saving families! Family is the most important thing. A safe, affordable home keeps families together and makes their bonds stronger.
Through the generous gifts given at the breakfast, as well as the matching gift of $40,000 given by Stylecraft Builders, our community raised over $118,000 to build affordable housing in partnership with families in Bryan/College Station. Thank you for coming together to build homes, communities and hope.
At the Breakfast, we also showed a video about the Luna family and how the Habitat program has impacted their lives. See for yourself!
