Every spring, Aggie Habitat for Humanity puts on the Shack-a-thon. Shack-a-Thon is an event in which the organization auctions off spaces around Rudder Fountain for various student organizations to build shacks. This event is a way for Aggie Habitat to raise poverty housing awareness among the students on the Texas A&M campus. The organizations that win in the auction get to hang out in the Shack Village and join in the fun during the week! Not only does this serve as a great fundraiser (all profit goes towards the Aggie Habitats annual house sponsorship), it also helps in educating people about poverty housing. Much of the fun of Shack-a-Thon is in constructing the shacks from donated materials.

Shack-a-Thon helps to promote a sense of community among the organizations that participate as well as the people who pass by. Students from a wide range of organizations such as FLOs, dorms, and engineering societies, build and sleep in the shacks for the duration of the week. We also have many other student organizations including HardChord DynaMix, A&M Fencing Club, Aggie Wranglers etc. come to perform for the students at Shack-a-Thon. This is Shack-a-Thons 14th year, meaning you could add this event to that long list of great Aggie traditions.
